First U.S.-China Law Enforcement and Cybersecurity Dialogue Held

On October 4, Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan hosted the first U.S. China Law Enforcement and Cybersecurity Dialogue, co-chaired by Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Acting Department of Homeland Security Secretary Elaine Duke. Chinese Minister of Public Security and State Councilor Guo Shengkun chaired for the Chinese government side. The dialogue is one of the four pillar dialogues launched by President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Mar-a-Lago April 7, 2017, and is a continuation and expansion of the U.S.-China High-Level Dialogue on Cybercrime and Related issues, which was established in 2015.

The Dialogue addressed important areas of the U.S.-China relationship on immigration, fugitives, counter-narcotics, counterterrorism, and cybersecurity. On cybersecurity, the outcomes reiterated commitments to consensus reached by previous Chinese and American presidents in 2015 in U.S.-China Cybersecurity cooperation. The outcomes further state that the two sides will continue to cooperate on network security, and will consider potential cooperation on cybersecurity of critical infrastructure.
