CAC Releases Four Administrative Provisions on Social Media Services
Over the past two weeks, the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) released four regulations on social media and online content in support of the Cybersecurity Law. All four documents aim to control Internet content and prevent the spread of illegal information as defined in Article 12 of the Cybersecurity Law.
They require service providers to set up information security and content screening management systems, cooperate with authorities with technical support when needed, require real name user registration with sufficient personal information protection mechanisms, and establish public supervision and reporting systems for complying with the measures.
Earlier this year, CAC released the Administrative Measures for Internet News Information Services and Internet News Service Licensing Measures. The recent four regulations show CAC's increasingly tightened control over Internet content and Internet information services in line with the Cybersecurity Law.
