MIIT Chen Zhaoxiong attends IMT-2025 5G Event
After MIIT’s announcement of 5G spectrum on June 5, Chen Zhaoxiong discussed further 5G development plans at the IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group Summit on June 12-13, 2017, including:
- Important breakthroughs have already been made because of 5G R&D projects focusing on core technology.
- China is currently in its 2nd phase of 5G testing and experiments
- International cooperation with Japan, Korea, EU and US has expanded and foreign enterprises are deeply involved in 5G testing.
Chen Zhaoxiong said it is a worldwide goal to speed up development of 5G and to set internationally-adopted 5G standards. Moving forward the focus of 5G technology testing will be in the areas of wireless transmission, network architecture, and security technology innovation to meet targets set for commercial use by 2020. They also are looking for breakthroughs in 5G equipment, terminal chips and core components and 5G networking innovations. The recently released New Internet Service Security Assessment Guidelines compliments these goals and prepares regulators for new networking innovations that are not covered in the Telecoms Services Catalog. They are also exploring possibilities in the integration of 5G with vertical industry such as self-driving cars and announced the new C-V2X working group to analyze 5G’s role in connected cars.
MIIT Science and Technology, Electronics, Telecommunications, and Telecoms Management Departments attended the Summit. More information on the summit can also be found on the CAICT website.
