EPR Extended to Renewable Resources Industry

On January 25, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) and Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) released the Guide on Promoting the Industrial Development of Renewable Resources in accordance with the 13th FYP and China Manufacturing 2025. Renewable resources are viewed as an important means to realize the Green Development initiated by the government during the transformation and upgrade of the whole economy. The Guide aims to promote the wide adoption of renewable resources and improve the utilization of renewable resources, including mechanical waste products, automobile, electrical and electronic products, waste batteries, etc, with a total target of 350 million ton reuse by 2020.

The guide encourages extending producer responsibility (EPR) to the electrical and electronic industry, as well as in auto industry, and lists the extension of producer responsibility for electrical and electronic products and new energy battery recycling as the top ten major pilot demonstration projects. This echoes the recent promulgation of Implementation Plan of EPR issued by General Office of State Council and is consistent in promoting EPR.
