CAC Strengthens Website Content Management Requirements
During a recent inspection of content managemnet on commercial websites and applications for 8 Internet companies, the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) offices in both Beijing and Guangdong discovered that the websites had weak management systems and norms. Additionally, they discovered that editors-in-chief were not carrying out their responsibilities, monitoring systems were weak, and staff lacked proper training. Regulators are now urgently addressing these issues.
According to inspectors, knowledge and process levels are not sufficient and most companies are blindly pursuing profit without ensuring that their website is properly maintained. Basic norms in terms of content management need to be established. The CAC is urgently addressing this problem because it will only become more severe as new technology and applications are rapidly deployed. Laws and regulations already lag behind new technology implementation.
On July 25, directors from all levels of CAC offices across the country gathered in Beijing and decided that in the latter part of this year they will place greater emphasis on establishing general rules and regulations, ensuring that editors-in-chief are performing responsibilities, and strengthening local CAC management. CAC believes that accountability is key to implementing these new requirements.
