CAC Launches First CII Cybersecurity Inspection Work
On July 8, the Cybersecurity Administration of China (CAC) announced on its official website that the first cybersecurity inspection of nationwide Critical Information Infrastructure has been launched recently, as an implementation measure of President Xi's speech on strengthening cybersecurity of critical information infrastructure in key sectors such as finance, energy, power, communications and transportation.
According to the announcement, critical information infrastructure is defined as the information or industrial control systems that provide the public with network information services or that support the operation of vital industries including energy, communications, finance, transportation and public affairs. In the case of a cybersecurity incident occurs, CIIs are identified as in CII systems that could impact the normal operation of vital industries, causing an upset in national politics, and a loss in economics, science and technology, society, culture, national defense, environment and people's life and property. The cybersecurity inspection work aims to conduct a comprehensive audit of information systems and industrial control systems which may impact critical business operation, identify cybersecurity vulnerabilities, evaluate risks and establish rectification accordingly.
The inspection will be led by all-level cyber and information departments, targeting mainly the Party and government agencies as well as SOEs. The inspection work will go from July through the end of December.
