MIIT Zeroes In On Telecoms and Internet for Cybersecurity Work

On June 22, the Internet Society of China hosted the 2016 China Cybersecurity Forum as a part of the 15th China Internet Conference. Officials from Ministry of Industry & Information Technology (MIIT), National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team (CN-CERT) and the People's Bank of China (PBoC) attended the meeting and delivered keynote speeches.

In particular, MIIT Cybersecurity Management Bureau Deputy Director General, Li Xuelin, outlined the four main principles of cybersecurity work going forward:

  • Further deepen the protection of critical information infrastructure, conduct inspection and risk assessment in the telecoms and Internet industry in the second half of the year and draft the "Telecom Cybersecurity Management Rules" along with a series of relevant cybersecurity standards
  • Strengthen network data protection, draft policies for data management in the telecoms and Internet industry and improve the security enforcement for big data sharing
  • Improve cybersecurity technical capacity by drafting "Guiding Opinions on Estabilishing Cybersecurity Technical Solutions in Telecom and Internet Industry", establishing the cybersecurity accountability management system in internet enterprises, and building cybersecurity big data platforms
  • Establish a cybersecurity information sharing mechanism between government and enterprises for security risks and vulnerabilities
