Vice Premier Ma Kai Emphasizes SEI Development in State Media
Last week, Vice Premier Ma Kai published an article in the People's Daily discussing the importance of implementing decisions reached at the 5th Plenum of the 18th Party Congress, which concluded in late October. Among other points of emphasis, Vice Premier Ma noted the importance of developing China's Strategic and Emerging Industries (SEI). Specifically, Vice Premier Ma listed:

- New generation information technology (IT)
- Biological sciences
- High-end equipment manufacturing
- New energy technology
- New materials
- New energy automobiles
In these areas, Vice Premier Ma stressed that China must create a favorable development environment, executing a comprehensive research and development plan, promoting industrialization, formulating effective standards and exploring innovative applications of technology.
