MIIT Adopts E-Labeling for CMIIT ID on Radio Transmitting Devices
On July 6, the State Radio Regulatory Commission (SRRC) of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) published a notice on the MIITwebsite, permitting CMIIT ID to be displayed electronically through a display where available, effective immediately.
The announcement was made according to the PRC Radio Regulations and other relevant national radio rules, and addressed to all provincial-level radio regulatory commissions, aiming to keep labeling requirements for CMIIT ID in line with radio industry development trends and to reduce manufacturing costs of radio transmission equipment.
This notice applies to all radio transmission equipment with an integrated display screen and that meets the following conditions:
- Equipment display screen must be integral (non-removable)
- Users must be provided specific instructions on how to access the CMIIT ID
- Users must be able to access the CMIIT ID without requiring special permissions (e.g., access codes)
- Equipment must not require special accessories or supplemental plug-ins (e.g., the installation of a SIM card) to access the CMIIT ID
- Equipment must be subject to other national legal and regulatory requirements
In addition, radio transmitting equipment utilizing e-labels are required to provide the CMIIT ID on the individual packaging and in the User's Manual, while radio transmitting equipment manufacturers must ensure the CMIIT ID e-labels to be secured in such a manner that third-parties cannot modify or delete it.
In late April, USITO led the engagement with SRRCon promoting the e-labeling allowance for CMIIT ID in China. China's allowance is consistent with the USFederal Communications Commission's Electronic Labeling Guidance, which was released in 2014.
