History
USITO was launched by three leading U.S. trade associations in late 1994, in cooperation with the International Trade Administration of the U.S. Department of Commerce. Seed funding from ITA’s Market Development Cooperator Program (MDCP) was matched with contributions from the American Electronics Association (now TechAmerica), Software and Information Industry Association (SIIA) and the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA).
The Beijing representative office was registered in October 1995 with support from the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), Ministry of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Electronics Industry, Ministry of Posts & Telecommunications, and National Science and Technology Committee.
In 1998, with the conclusion of the MDCP grant, the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) joined as the fourth “parent association”, followed in 2002 by the Information Technology Industry Council (ITI).
USITO is now the leading independent, non-profit, membership-based trade association representing the U.S. information and communications technology industry in China, with a membership comprised of the leading high-tech companies of the U.S.
USITO has fostered deep and enduring relationships with Chinese and U.S. government offices and ministries, academia and other industry groups. USITO is a trusted partner focused on improving policy and regulations for the ICT industry in China.
