Phase Two of 5G Testing Begins
On November 20, IMT- 2020 promotion group released the Technical Specification for the 2nd Phase 5G Technical R&D and Testing, which aims to develop 5G technical prototype equipment and support the global 5G standards making process.
Director General Wen Ku of MIIT Information and Communication Development Department delivered a keynote speech where he urged industry to focus on 4 critical areas including standards and R&D coordination, 5G industrial chain building, spectrum research, and international cooperation. The 2nd phase of technical specification testing will be based on a unified testing platform, testing spectrum, equipment and technical specifications and will carry out verification of technical plans for various 5G mobile Internet and IoT usage scenarios. China plans to use the 3.4-3.6 GHz low band for testing, but encourages companies to continue conducting R&D and testing for high frequency bands, despite the fact that frequencies haven't been decided.
Both foreign and domestic mobile operators, system and equipment providers and IC suppliers as well as government officials from MIIT, NDRC, and MOST attended the meeting.
