MIIT Outlines NITS Smart Standardization Focus for 2015

 

On April 23, the National Information Technology Standardization Technical Committee (NITS) held the fourth plenary session of its third committee in Beijing. Huai Jinpeng, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), and Xiao Hua, Director-General of the MIIT Planning Department and Chief Member of NITS, attended the meeting and delivered speeches.

 

According to a news report from a leading Chinese newspaper in the electronic information industry, Huai characterized the development of China's information technology industry with four S-words:

  • Size: China's electronic information industry, integrated circuit industry and software and IT service industry have surpassed 180 trillion RMB (USD 30 trillion);
  • Speed: 2014 year-on-year growth of the integrated circuit industry and software and IT service industry was over 20%, with an even higher growth rate expected for 2015;
  • Shift: the IT industry is in the midst of integration with traditional manufacturing and extension of applications from other technologies such as robotics and new materials, especially with the development of Internet, mobile Internet and big data;
  • Solution: information technology creates new opportunities and provides new solutions for achieving China's sustainable economic growth.

Huai further urged NITS to focus its standardization work on IT industry development and innovation, increase international participation and support national industry transformation and upgrade.

 

Following Huai's speech, Xiao Hua announced the work focus for NITS in 2015, including:

  • providing greater support to the government, 
  • strengthening standardization research and development in key fields, 
  • establishing an IT standards system to support development of an intelligent manufacturing comprehensive standards system, and 
  • start research on China's intelligent manufacturing standardization roadmap, with an emphasis on technologies such as cloud computing and Internet of Things. 

NITS will represent China in hosting the ISO/IEC JTC1 annual plenary session in Beijing in late October.
