China Releases Self-Discipline Convention for Revealing and Handling Online Information Leaks
On June 19, the network and information security working group of the Internet Society of China hosted a formal kick-off event and signing ceremony for a new convention aiming to regulate the manner in which ICT companies reveal and handle information leaks in China.
According to an official press release on the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) website, the signing ceremony was attended by roughly 40 enterprises, including telecommunications companies, software and hardware firms, information security companies, as well as relevant government agencies and government affiliated entities, including the National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team/Coordination Center of China (CNCERT).
While the Convention itself was not made available in the MIIT press release, a brief summary states that the three principles of "objectivity, timeliness and appropriateness" will be emphasized in the Convention, while a main focus will be increasing compliance with existing and future government guidelines regulating online and network information leaks.
