China Pushes Forward Green Product Certification Program
Earlier this month, the Certification and Accreditation Administration of China (CNCA) held a closed-door working group meeting in Beijing to discuss conformity assessment for consumer electronic and ICT-related products eligible for Green Product Certification. This is the most recent development in a concerted effort by China to establish a national Green Product Certification system, which is scheduled to be completed and released in July 2016.
Lack of foreign participation in the drafting process has led to widespread concerns about the specific requirements for certification, the conformity assessment process, as well as the speed at which companies will be asked to meet these requirements. Most critically, it remains unclear whether the Green Product Certification will constitute an entirely new certification, or whether it will be a consolidation of existing certifications.
