2018 Pilot Projects Announced in Internet Plus, AI, and Digital Economy
On Oct 16, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) released theNotice on Implementing 2018 "Internet+", AI Development, and Digital Economy Key Pilot Projects, laying out the criteria to apply as a key pilot project under these three national level initiatives. To be eligible for the funding associated with these initiatives, the project implementer must be registered in China and have strong R&D capabilities. On top of these basic requirements, the Notice also lists specific areas and sectors that qualify to be a key pilot project under each initiative.
 
"Internet+" Initiative:
- Cloud Computing, including next generation cloud computing operating systems, edge computing platform and application, heterogeneous computing platform and application
 - IoT, including location based semiconductor industry, autonomous vehicles, drones, and robots sensors
 - "Internet+" Collaborative Manufacturing Service Support Platform
 
AI Initiative:
- Core technology and application of AI, including deep learning semiconductors, applications, open-source platform
 - Basic resource public service platform projects, including face-recognition system and application, voice-recognition system and application
 - Intelligent unmanned system application, including drones
 - Intelligent robotics development and application projects, including high-end service robots
 
Digital Economy Initiative:
- Government information consolidation and sharing application projects
 - Big data application in healthcare, transportation, education, finance, logistics, environmental protection and location information
 - Digital economy public infrastructure, including e-governance platform, e-commerce credit system
 - China-ASEAN digital hub pilot projects
 - OBOR digital cooperation projects
