MIIT Drafting Telecom Regulatory Responsibility List

Last week, during an inspection tour in Guangdong province, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) Vice Minister Liu Lihua told reporters that MIIT was in the process of drafting a set of guiding opinions that could alter the balance of power between central and provincial government in China's telecommunications regulatory sphere.

According to Vice Minister Liu, the regulation, called the Guiding Opinions on the Telecommunications Management Bureau Authority and Responsibility List, will offer a clear delineation of regulatory responsibility between central and provincial governments in the telecommunications industry, streamlining governance by offering greater regulatory influence to regional governments. According to Vice Minister Liu, MIIT has already assembled a core drafting team for the Guiding Opinions.
