CAC Releases Regulation on Security Assessment of Internet Information Services Having Public-Opinion Attributes or Social Mobilization Effects

On Nov 15, the Cybersecurity Administration of China (CAC) released the Regulation on Security Assessment of Internet Information Services Having Public-Opinion Attributes or Social Mobilization Effects (the Regulation), with an effective date of November 30, 2018.

According to the Regulation, Internet information services having public-opinion attributes or social mobilization effects include the following categories:
1) Launches of information services such as BBS, blogs, microblogs, chat rooms, chat groups, official accounts, video clips, webcasts, information sharing, and mini-apps, or increases in auxiliary features;
2) Launches of channels for voicing public opinions or other Internet information services having the potential to mobilize the public to engage in certain activities.
