POSITION SUMMARY

Our client is currently looking for a Director, Government Relations and Regulatory Affairs, Asia Pacific, tojointheexpandingglobalGovernmentRelationsandRegulatoryAffairsteam. Thisnewlycreatedposition will be based in InterDigital’s new office in Beijing, China. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of the mainland Chinese (PRC) policy and political landscape and will have actively participated in patent and intellectual property rights (IPR) policy discussions in China and with Chinese regulators, policy makers and thelegalcommunity. Theidealcandidatewillalsopossessin‐depthknowledgeoftheregulatoryandlegal landscape involving IPR, including standards‐essential patents (SEPs). The candidate will have the knowledge and ability to work with agencies in China such as the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR), the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO), the Ministry of Commerce, the China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations is a plus. This person will also be expected to assist InterDigital in opening an office in Beijing, China. Finally, this person should be a self‐starter able to independently and routinely interface with key political stakeholders and others in Asia who can impact the outcome of relevant policy efforts.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Report directly to and support the Vice President of Global Government Relations and Regulatory Affairs, who is based in Washington, DC, USA, with building the InterDigital brand among stakeholders in China.

  • Represent the company with regard to legislative and regulatory policy in key areas before Chinese government officials.

  • Build, maintain and expand relationships with key Chinese government and relevant non‐ governmental stakeholders important to company policy objectives.

  • Represent company in Chinese trade associations and partnerships across diverse set of stakeholders; play leadership roles in these associations and build coalitions with similarly situated interest groups and companies.

  • Assist in the management of InterDigital’s Chinese consulting/lobbying firms, Chinese trade association relationships, and other Chinese government relations vendors.

  • Proactively identify and communicate PRC legislative issues and trends that affect the company, including preparing memoranda, talking points and briefing materials.

  • Proactively assist in the development and creation of InterDigital's PRC legislative strategy, while also working to advocate and advance InterDigital’s Chinese government relations and regulatory affairs positions and interests.

  • Collaborate with InterDigital’s communications team in support of these efforts.

  • Participate in the development of InterDigital’s PRC public policy agenda and positions and coordinates with internal teams to determine the potential impact of proposed legislative and regulatory activity.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • The successful candidate will have the Chinese equivalent of a bachelor’s degree. Strong preference will be given to those candidates who also hold the Chinese equivalent of a legal or master’s degree.

  • At least 10 years of PRC political or government advocacy experience required. Experience within a Chinese agency that deals with technology preferred.

  • Requires in‐depth knowledge of PRC legislative rules and procedures, legislative processes, politics, and the complex corporate and policy issues affecting InterDigital.

  • Experience navigating the PRC legislative process and political landscape.

  • Have existing relationships within PRC agencies or the PRC government or the ability to build a network at all levels of Chinese government and business.

  • Linguistically fluent in spoken and written Mandarin and English.

  • Culturally fluent in conducting business in China.

  • A reputation for ethical conduct and a commitment to ethical behavior.

  • Team player with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external partners.

  • Executive presence and extroverted personality, with the ability to influence and cultivate relationships with a diverse set of internal and external stakeholders.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; polished and effective public speaker.

  • Proven track record of success in company advocacy, strategy implementation and persuasion.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to meet deadlines and deliver on goals.

  • Discretion, good judgment, and desire to be part of a committed, driven, fun, and loyal team.

  • Willingness to travel, both within China and globally, as needed.
