MIIT Announces First Wave of 5G Spectrum

On June 5, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) released the Notice on the Matters Concerning the Use of Frequency Bands 3300-3600MHz and 4800-5000MHz for the Fifth-Generation International Mobile Telecommunication System (IMT-2020) for public comments with a deadline of Jul. 7, 2017. The Notice announced that MIIT has allocated 3.3-3.6GHz and 4.8-5.0GHz for the use of 5G in accordance with ITU's Radio Regulations and China's frequency use. In details, 3.3-3.4GHz should be for indoor use, and the use of 3.4-3.6GHz and 4.9-5.0GHz should not cause interference to existing use.

China's actively doing testing for 5G, and now it has announced the allocation for the relatively low frequency band. In July 2016, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced that the 28GHz, 37GHz, 39GHz, and 64-71GHz bands would be dedicated to 5G among the higher frequency bands. USITO will continue to follow closely on the development 5G spectrum in China, especially among the higher frequency bands.
