Guidance Regarding Industrial Products Eco-design

On February 27th, MIIT, NDRC, and MEP jointly released guidance regarding industrial product eco-design, a key part of government efforts to protect the environment and achieve 12th FYP energy-saving and emissions reduction targets.

The eco-design guidelines are designed around the principle of whole life-cycle management, and aim to reduce pollution, fulfill extended producer responsibility (EPR) requirements, enhance product competitiveness, and promote green technology innovation.

Key tasks through 2015 include:
  • Pilot programs for an initial batch of automobile, electrical and electronic products, with development of implementation rules during the process.
  • Development of eco-design standards for resource-intensive products with higher pollution emissions and toxic and harmful substances.
  • Establish evaluation and supervision system
  • Promote technology R&D and deployment.
