China’s Hazardous Waste List (2016 edition) Released

On June 21, the Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP), National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), and Ministry of Public Security (MPS) jointly released the National List of Hazardous Waste (2016 edition) to the public, effective August 1, 2016. 
 
Compared to the 2008 version, this revision made adjustments to 46 major categories, and lists a total of 479 items, adding a total of 117 new items. 16 kinds of hazardous waste are included in the List of Hazardous Waste Management Exemptions.

Electrical waste and electronic equipment are not classified as hazardous waste, but their dismantling process may produce hazardous waste. The ICT industry may refer to the hazardous waste industry category in the list, which is based on the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and Their Disposal and includes electronic components manufacturing, basic chemical raw materials manufacturing, battery manufacturing, and other synthetic materials classification manufacturing.
