CAC Hones In on CSR

On July 26, the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC), Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), and the Internet Society of China (ISC) jointly held a forum on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) following President Xi's April 19 speech calling for Internet companies to fulfill CSR. In the forum, ISC published an industry self-discipline "Internet Company CSR Proposal", which asked internet companies to use the Internet to guide public opinions, prevent dissemination of illegal and false information, ensure network security, and respect Internet user's rights to information and choice among others. Self-discipline industry proposals are strongly encouraged. With two recently released self-discipline conventions on data flow and Internet CSR, it would be reasonable to expect more in the future.
